Course: Construction Trades
Instructor: Jerry Helm

Sno-Isle Tech instructor Jerry Helm brought 25 students of the school’s Construction Trades program for a site visit to the 22 West Mercer project on November 5. Sierra’s Project Superintendent Jon Gebow, a former student of Sno-Isle, led the students through the site office and jobsite.

Mr. Gebow introduced the students to the project with a brief showing of the construction documents, looking over architectural elevations and floor plans. The group then walked the site, starting at the lowest level of the underground parking garage to discuss the earliest stages of the project including site demolition, the excavation and shoring processes, and the installation of footings and foundations.

Students had an opportunity to observe shotcrete of perimeter walls, ask questions about structural steel and concrete, as well as interact directly with Sierra Field Personnel to learn basic rigging and tower crane signaling procedures.
