Shoreline Community College on Tuesday cut the ribbon on its $4.2 million Professional Automotive Training Center expansion. The project added 26,000 square feet to the 32,000-square-foot center at J6101 Greenwood Ave. N. in Shoreline. The additional space allows for a corporate center for Toyota, and dedicated training spaces with vehicle lifts and classrooms for Hyundai, Volvo, Hunter, Snap-on and others.
Sierra Construction of Woodinville was the general contractor and Group Mackenzie’s Seattle office was in charge of design. The new space was made with tilt-up concrete panels.
Major subcontractors included Donovan Excavating, Apex Steel, K Kenney Construction, Coastal Steel, SQI, Continental Door, Commercial Interiors, Main Painters, AFP Systems, All Phase Plumbing, Emerald Aire, and SME Electrical Contractors. Project funding consisted of $2 million from the state and the rest from automotive-industry sources, including $1 million from Toyota USA and more than $1 million from members of the Puget Sound Automobile Dealers Association. The center, which opened in 1992, educates about 120 students and provides training for 6,000 to 10,000 automotive industry workers yearly.
