The first wall of a new 800,000 Amazon Fulfillment Center in Kent went up on Tuesday. This will be the fourth Amazon Fulfillment center in the Puget Sound in addition to Amazon’s recently opened sort center in Kent.

The new Kent Amazon Fulfillment Center is across the street from the Amazon sort center. The sort center sorts packages for final delivery by the United State Post Office (USPS).

According to Dave Graybeal, a General Manager at Amazon Fulfillment’s Dupont facility, the new Kent facility will handle smaller products, like books, Kindles and small electronics. The new warehouse will be able to hold millions of units. The new facility, when completed, will expand the number of products available for Amazon’s same day delivery and for seven-day-a-week delivery with Amazon Prime that is rolling out in the Puget Sound area.
Graybeal said that Amazon builds based on demand and that customers want lower cost and quick delivery. The new Kent facility will put more products closer to customers and “extend the delivery window to a true two-day delivery across seven day a week,” Graybeal said.
When completed the Kent warehouse will employ several hundred people with an average starting wage of $12.25 hour based on location and the job market.
Sierra Construction Company is building the Kent fulfillment center and construction should be completed in 2015. Amazon would not give a date for when the Kent Fulfillment Center would open.
