New Hire: Kayla McCurley

McCurley-Kayla

Extending a warm welcome to Kayla McCurley, one of our newest Project Engineers! Oregon born and raised, she comes to use from University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Architecture. "After getting a degree in Architecture, I wasn’t very excited about the thought of working in a design firm. A friend of mine encouraged me to start looking into construction, and as luck would have it we both ended up landing jobs at Sierra. I was drawn in by the longevity of the employees. For a relatively new company, most people I talked to had been here for 10+ years, and I feel like that says a lot about the quality of the company."

If you weren't in construction what would you be doing?
I would probably be the owner of my own coffee shop. Before applying at Sierra I was actually given the opportunity to buy out my former boss from one of her locations. If the offer had come a few years later I probably would have jumped at the chance, but I didn’t want to feel like I had wasted the time and hard work that went into getting my degree.

What is your favorite pastime?
I love going on hikes/to the park with my dog, Max. Mostly because it’s the only way I can exhaust him enough to take a nap on the couch with me.

Tell us something that may surprise us about you.
Football is by far my favorite sport (go Steelers!). I came in first with my fantasy team this season.

What is your favorite fruit or vegetable? Least favorite?
I love raspberries and corn on the cob. Mushrooms are disgusting.

What is your favorite food, that you can't resist?
Mexican. Tacos/tequila is not something that should be reserved for just on Tuesday’s.
