Sierra Awarded Mt. Vernon, WA Wal-Mart Supercenter

Sierra began work on the new Mt. Vernon Wal-mart on Sept 3rd, 2008 with a formal ground breaking on Sept 19th. Those in attendance for the groundbreaking included the Mayor of Mt. Vernon Bud Norris, members of the Skagit County Economic Development Council, the manager of the existing Mount Vernon Wal-Mart along with several Wal-mart associates, the local Fire Chief, and members of the business community.

The first weeks of the project included on-site contaminated soil alleviation prior to the start of a 350,000 ton import operation to raise the site on average 10-12’ out of the flood plain.  The building pad is pre-loaded to accelerate settlement with projected removal date around the end of 2008.

The 203,000 sf supercenter will be completed with associated local road and I-5 off ramp improvements in August 2009
