Structures: Put a building right on top of a tunnel? We can do that!

Across from the Paramount Theatre in downtown Seattle, an unusual six-story apartment building is rising.
Its wood-framed upper floors look normal enough. But at ground level, a bridge appears to have crashed into the site and woven its massive, rusty steel framework into the design.

PSRC picks 6 to win Vision 2040 awards

Six projects and programs won awards from the Puget Sound Regional Council for showing the kind of forward-thinking planning that matches PSRC’s Vision 2040 plan.

The plan is a strategy for growth management, transportation and economic development in the King-Pierce-Snohomish region as the population increases. Another 5 million people are projected to live here by 2040, according to PSRC.

Tacoma’s Titus-Will Ford undertakes a major remodeling

A large Tacoma-area auto dealer, Titus-Will Ford, has begun a major remodeling project that will add 50 percent new space in its showroom, double its customer waiting area and create a climate-controlled service reception area.

The multi-million-dollar project, when complete early next year, will add a new automated car wash to the dealership along with a new truck service area.

HomeStreet provides funds for Henry construction

HomeStreet Bank Commercial Real Estate, a subsidiary of HomeStreet, Inc., has announced that it has provided a $25 million construction loan to Henry Foss Group, LLC for The Henry Apartments in Tacoma.

Panattoni starts expansion at state’s former liquor warehouse

Panattoni Development Co. has broken ground on a 111,677-square-foot expansion to the former Washington State Liquor Control Board’s warehouse at 4401 E. Marginal Way S. in Seattle.

Skyline Distribution Center is being developed with Prudential Insurance Co., and is scheduled to be finished by the fourth quarter of this year.

The expansion was designed by Craft Architects. Sierra Construction is the general contractor.

Titus-Will Ford renovating its Tacoma service shop

Sierra Construction last month started demolition and expansion of Titus-Will Ford’s service shop at 3606 S. Sprague Ave. in Tacoma.

The expansion will create 8,100 square feet of space for six truck repair bays, a car wash and tool storage. Crews are using masonry for the structural walls, and steel joists and decking.

Sierra is expanding the site to the west by paving an additional 25 parking stalls.

Ground-breaking for key Tacoma apartment building

Construction will begin today on the first new apartment on the Tacoma waterfront in years.

Fedex opens center in Redmond

The 210,000-square-foot FedEx Ground Distribution Center is open in Redmond, and is the largest industrial building in the city.

SunCap Property Group of Charlotte, N.C., bought the 24-acre property at 18795 N.E. 73rd St. in 2012 for $16.87 million and developed the property as a build-to-suit industrial center for FedEx.

In October, SunCap Property Group sold the property to Franklin-Redmond Limited Liability Co. for $60.6 million.
